sorry for being so informal but i have to post this article here. it’s up to you to accept this or maybe edit this (and include in the a’s next issue). i’ve planned to post it in the bulletin boards but i was afraid that somebody could see me. haha
*at least i could let you know (sorry for some grammatical errors)
INTRAMS CONTROVERSY:
CAS, CFNR AND BSN STUDENTS WERE REQUIRED TO PAY TWO HUNDRED PESOS (P200) FOR THE INTRAMS JUST ENDED. THE TOTAL AMOUNT ARE TO BE USED FOR THE PURCHASE OF UNIFORMS, PAYMENT OF TRAINERS, SNACKS, ETC. THOUGH THIS IS A VERY BIG AMOUNT, SOME STILL MANAGED TO PAY BUT OF COURSE THERE ARE STILL A NUMBER WHO COULDN’T (CONSIDERING THE NATIONAL AND EVEN WORLD CRISIS). WITH THAT, CAS-SSC OFFICERS IMPOSED A 10-PESO FINES EVERY WEEK UNTIL A STUDENT COULD PAY SUCH AMOUNT (AGREED BY THE OFFICERS AND STUDENTS DURING OUR GENERAL ASSEMBLY). OKAY, THAT WAS FINE WITH US.
THE PROBLEM WAS DURING THE OPENING OF THE INTRAMURALS AT THE VSU GYM. THEY CHECKED THE ATTENDANCE BY FIRST GIVING AN ATTENDANCE SLIP TO STUDENTS THEN THE SECRETARY WOULD SIGN IT (AND EACH SIGN COST P10 IF I AM NOT MISTAKEN). HOWEVER, THE SAID ATTENDANCE SLIP WAS ONLY LIMITED TO STUDENTS WHO HAVE PAID THE P200. SHOOT! THE STUDENTS WHO HAVEN’T PAID SUCH BIG AMOUNT COULDN’T HAVE THE SLIP AND THEY WOULD AGAIN CARRY WEIGHTS ON THEIR BACK DURING THE PAY DAY (THAT IS WHEN THEY ARE TO SETTLE THEIR ACCOUNTS FOR THEM TO TAKE THE FINAL EXAM). STUDENT’S TOTAL FINES COULD PROBABLY REACH TO P100 PESOS – P40 PESOS FOR THE 4-WEEK NON PAYMENT OF THE P200 AND P60 FOR THE ATTENDANCE. AND WORST, THE SECRETARY GIVE THE ATTENDANCE SLIP TO CERTAIN STUDENTS (WHO HAVE NO LISTS OF THOSE WHO HAVE PAID SUCH AMOUNT) FOR THEM TO DISTRIBUTE THE SLIPS TO THEIR CLASSMATES ORDERING THE SAID CONDITION. SO, IF THAT CERTAIN STUDENTS ASKED IF YOU HAD MADE YOUR PAYMENT AND YOU’LL SAY YES (THOUGH YOU’RE NOT); YOU WOULD CERTAINLY HAVE A SLIP. SEE? IS THIS ORGANIZATION PRACTICING FAIRNESS TO THEIR MEMBERS? ARE THE OFFICERS THINKING OF THEIR ECONOMIC SITUATION? I GUESS NO. CERTAINLY NOT!
-BECAUSE THAT IS NOT JUST THE ISSUE. HERE’S ANOTHER ONE: ONE OF THE HIGHLIGHTS OF THIS YEAR’S INTRAMS IS THE SEARCH FOR MR. AND MS. INTRAMURALS 2008 (THIS IS PROBABLY ONE OF THE REASONS WHY THE IMPOSED AMOUNT IS MUCH BIGGER THAN LAST YEAR’S). OKAY, I WILL GO STRAIGHT TO THE ISSUE. THE CONTESTANTS (MR AND MS) WERE PURCHASED WITH NEW SANDALS, JEANS, SHIRTS, ETC. (YES! – FROM HEAD TO FOOT). AND IF I’M NOT MISTAKEN, THEY COSTED MORE OR LESS P7000 JUST FOR THE TWO CONTESTANTS. WELL, IT WOULD BE FINE IF THESE THINGS WILL BE PERPETUAL (OR COULD BE USED BY OTHER CONTESTANTS FOR THE NEXT YEARS). SEE MY POINT? IF THEY MUST HAVE TOLD EVERYBODY THESE GREAT PRIVILEGES IN THE FIRST PLACE, MANY STUDENTS WOULD HAVE BEEN AUDITIONING FOR IT. THEY COULD HAVE CHOSEN THE TALENTED AND SMART CONTESTANTS. IF THEY WERE BEING INITIATIVE AND RESOURCEFUL ENOUGH, THEY COULD HAVE BORROWED MY NEW BOUGHT PENSHOPPE JEANS AND EXPENSIVE SANDALS (OR ANYBODY’S). NOW TELL ME, DO YOU DESERVE TO BE CALLED OFFICERS? PROBABLY YES, BECAUSE YOU WERE VOTED AND YOU HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS TYPES OF SITUATIONS FOR A LONG TIME. HOW ABOUT THE ADVISERS? HAVE YOU DONE YOUR PART OR YOU’RE JUST LIKE OF THE THEM WHO ARE INSENSITIVE TO OTHERS’ SITUATION? WELL, PROBABLY THE OFFICERS DID NOT DEAL WITH YOU BEFORE COMING TO SUCH DECISIONS.
I KNOW MY STORY IS ONE-SIDED SO I CHALLENGE THE OFFICERS ESPECIALLY THE GENERAL ATHLETIC MANAGER AND THE CAS-SSC PRESIDENT TO HOLD ANOTHER GENERAL ASSEMBLY JUSTIFYING THEIR PART AND THE FINANCIAL REPORT OF THEIR EXPENSES.
please feel free to message me at my new email
Betty,
This issue concerning the University Intramural Games is indeed something to be acted upon. Lately, I have stumbled upon Marjhun (did I spell it correctly), the CAS-SSC President. I informed him of your comment and your concern and told him to visit the website for him to see for himself. He said that your team is planning to give a financial report very soon.
My suggestion is this: do come to that certain assembly where the said report will be given. If there are heavy issues that needs to be addressed, do it there. If the council and the team would be stubborn enough to rectify them, you could catch our attention (once again) so that the broader issues could be published (corruption, bad leadership, illegal financial expenses). This might also be happening in other colleges and they might have their stories too—that we could dig into, if so.
If the Amaranth could find very grave issues concerning finances during the Intramural Games, a special one-page release would be appropriate if all other means fail. But again, discuss these concerns first personally with the people concerned before trying to spark a university-wide controversy.
We appreciate your concern for the studentry. We hope we could find more people like you: vigilant, concerned and radical. Continue to be!
More power,
EDITOR
Betty,
It,s good to know somebody still cares about what’s going on.
Like you, we too in the pub are concerned with issues that directly or indirectly affect the students. I agree with what Jed posted.. attend the assembly (kay maghatag man daw sila ug financial statement). You can bring up your concern sa inyong assembly.
you can even actually ask the officers about your concern since it’s your right.
If it still doesn’t give you peace, I mean kung nagtoo jud ka nga naay nahitabo (alams na), perhaps you could catch our attention again. We will be very much pleased to accommodate student concerns such as yours.
And please, tell the others about our blog spot, help us promote a more interactive publication.
Thanks for your concern.
Our school needs a lot of vigilant students like you.
be heard! Dare to ask! Dare to make things happen!
We appreciate your concern..
we hope to receive more relevant posts from responsible students like you..
salamat sa imong pagpadayag sa imong huna-huna pinaagi sa ATONG blogspot.
kami nanghinaot nga ikaw mag[adayon sa imong pagpaka-bana sa mga panghitabo dinhi sa atong campus..
hi!
jed, i appreciate and will listen to your suggestions. thank you for being responsive to the issue.
to ian kim, i actually was not thinking about that “alams na”. i just hate what they’ve done. anyway, i thank you still for giving significance to my “story”.
don’t you worry i’ve already started to telling others about this site..
God bless to the amaranth staff. Hope we can and will continue to serve our studentry for the good of our beloved institution!
